The Laguna Seca Sports Shooting Association (LSSSA) offers a yearly membership that gives access to many fun and exciting shooting activities held on weekends and after hours at the Laguna Seca Range and at other facilities located in Monterey County.

LSSSA is an Association of Monterey County Sport Shooters established in 1981. The object of this organization is to encourage organized rifle and pistol shooting among residents of the State of California, tri-county area (Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties) with a view toward fostering safe handling and proper care of firearms, as well as improved marksmanship. It is our further object and purpose to help develop those characteristics of honesty, good fellowship, self-discipline, team play and self-reliance, which are the essentials of good sportsmanship and the foundation of true patriotism.

The cost of the yearly membership is $40.00 (less than the weekly Starbucks habit my wife has!). Cheap for all you get and for the access to Laguna Seca and events you can’t get anywhere else in this county.

Who am I?

My name is Jonathan Landwer. I am a proud LSSSA member and I manage the corporate headquarters for Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, the countries largest firearms training school located just outside of Las Vegas Nevada. Front Sight caters to civilians, law enforcement and the military. Think of it as the “Pebble Beach Golf resort” for shooting enthusiast. We have a 550-acre world-class facility with over 28 training ranges and a cadre of almost 200 instructors 45 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip waiting for you.

Currently Front Sight trains about 20,000 students a year in the safe, responsible and defensive use of Handguns, Rifles, Shotguns and full auto weapons to levels that far exceed the Law enforcement and Military community. What does this mean for you? Read on.

While participating in the many fun, exciting and challenging shooting events put on by LSSSA, I saw many shooters in the various events that had room for improvement. Some had gun handling, some had problems presenting a gun from the holster properly and safely, or quickly clearing malfunctions under stress. Many shooters lacked consistent accuracy because they did not know or understand the three secrets, causing them to miss easy shots and giving them confidence issues or blaming equipment -”These sights are off…” when it was a problem of proper training. No one has shown them the proper trigger press, or sight picture and sight alignment. Those three secrets I mentioned earlier.

Before my many training courses at Front Sight I too was in the same boat. Having fun, but wanting to be better with my weapons. My journey brought me to Front Sight and then to the LSSSA. I felt bad for those shooters. I wanted them to have the confidence and superior skill sets with their weapons that I and the other members who have attended training at Front Sight now have, some moving from 17th place to 3rd, 2nd and 1st place after having attended a single Four Day Defensive Handgun class at Front Sight. This commonality of training makes for a more consistent and safe range and that helps everyone.

Take me for instance, I am in my late 30’s, out of shape and legally blind without my glasses yet, I take 1st, 2nd 3rd place with regularity in the IDPA and Plate matches using different type of guns, 1911’s, Glocks, and revolvers and sometimes while using a borrowed weapon. How do I make this happen? What set’s me apart from you? I have taken high end firearms training from Front Sight and I apply the shooting principles that they taught me in the handgun classes.

I thought about it and wondered how I and Front Sight could help the shooters perform better, help the LSSSA club grow and introduce people to Front Sight and giving back to a club that has given me and the other members so much.

Front Sight’s offer to help the LSSSA club and introduce new shooters to training is that all Active, paid in full members will receive a Four Day $2,000 dollar Front Sight course certificate that entitles the holder to attend either a Four Day Defensive Handgun, Four Day Tactical Shotgun or Four Day Practical Rifle course. Two people may use 1 certificate for the same Two-Day Course taken together.

Once you are paid in full and voted in a Full Member of LSSSA you will be presented a packet at the next meeting that includes your $2,000 course certificate, brochure, DVD and course application by the Club’s Membership Director, Bill Harness

We look forward to having you shooting and training with us soon!

Thank you.
